Once more, with feeling:

Frankly, my money's on Bloomberg if/when he decides to jump in the race

I need someone to explain Bloomberg to me. On paper, I can't see any reason not to like him, but I can't get a sense of the man. Help a non-NewYorker out!

I don't agree with every single thing he stands for, but I appreciate that he is rarely wishy-washy about his beliefs, playing the political game when he has to, but almost always with a clear endgame in mind. I'd say he's a pragmatic progressive, with a bit of a dictatorial streak at times, but he has the kind of spine you want to see in a leader. His bulldog-like approach to fixing the NYC education system is probably the biggest thing I've liked personally -- still a work in progress, for sure, but only his most partisan critics would deny he's made a huge difference there -- and his pragmatic approach to dealing with unions, businesses and "special interests" in a post-9/11 world has gained my respect over the years.

Partnered with the right VP candidate, ideally a relative unknown with some credible foreign policy credentials and no significant Iraq baggage attached, he could make a serious run, especially if Giuliani and Clinton end up the being the main nominees.
