Mission Accomplished, Coach!

[this is good]
Nice job coach! Enjoyed watching and hearing about the progress. I'm a little concerned about the black socks on the field, but will have to let that slide.
Black socks are a tip of the hat to the old Negro Leagues, bubba. Had to explain that to Salomé, too, when she dressed Isaac one morning in white socks!
Thanks for sharing. Man, I love baseball. My father was my little league coach, too. I have fond memories of not just games and practices, but of being taught how to properly apply saddle soap to my glove to break it in properly. Many a summer night was spent working in the old glove while listening to baseball on the radio. God has blessed me with girls, however (a dancer and a gymnast, no less), so little league coaching is not in the cards for me. Thanks for letting me follow your experience.

Congratulations on a great season Guy! Dads who love to coach and are good at it are very hard to find. My husband is one as well (he has coached soccer and baskeball so far) and it never ceases to amaze me how much heart and soul he will put in to coaching. To me it would be just one more thing on my to-do list, but to him it is really fulfilling. I will have to send him over to read this.

PS- love the heirloom Gonzalez 40!

@BB: I remember listening to Yankee games on the radio as a kid, back in the late 70s, when baseball was an all-consuming passion, both for me and the players themselves. If Isaac gets even a fraction of that passion for the game, I'll be thrilled. As for your daughters, our league is co-ed until the kids are 9, at which point girls are moved into softball, which I think is lame. The two girls I had on the team were better than half of the boys!

@Gretchen: It was definitely more fulfilling than I had imagined it would be, and it gave me a small taste of what teachers get to experience on a regular basis. If only I had the patience for it, I'd love to be a teacher, but coaching was a nice substitute.

I was a huge Royals fan growing up. (OK, still am, but it's harder to admit in public these days.) The Yankees and Royals were bitter rivals when I was growing up. Maybe more so from the Royals side. Both teams seemed destined to play each other in the playoffs each year (with the Yankees winning and going to the series, of course). I LOVED the rivalry back then. Like most of America, I respected but hated the Yankees. They were fun to hate, though. I went to a KC/NY series in 77 or so, and went down and met some of the players. Willie Randolph, Chris Chambliss, Oscar Gamble. Those pin stripes up close scared the heck out of me as a kid.
